Bologna Between the mountains and the lowlands, Bologna is sited on the historical Via Emilia. A city with truly ancient roots, Bologna has many archeological sites and a historic center the Medieval origins of which are perfectly preserved. Modena and the Ferrari World Sited on the via Emilia, Modena has, since the days of the Roman empire, been an important agricultural center. This enchanting town is known Internationally because of its proximity to Maranello, head quarters of Ferrari, and also for being the home of one Italy's most illustrious Military Academies. The countryside around Modena encompasses the Nature Reserve Salse di Nirano. Modena has many sites of artistic and cultural interest, such as Modena Cathedral, the Tower of the Ghirlandina, the Lapidario Museum, the Church of St. Pietro, the Church of St. Agostino, Palazzo Ducale, the Duchi d'Este Library, the Civic Museums and the Estense Gallery. Events of particular importance organized in the town include: the Modena Antiques Show, Pavarotti International, the Theatre Festival, the Estense Week and the Quintana Fair. Gastronomic produce of International fame includes prosciutto crudo and zampone, balsamic vinegar, Trebbiane grapes, tigelle, Bensone, Nut liquor and Lambrusco Wine. The road which, from Modena leads to Parma, via Reggio Emilia, offers travellers any number of pleasant surprises. A route which unites culture, history, art and gastronomy. We commence our journey at Maranello, 18kms south of Modena, town which has achieved cult status among motorcar enthusiasts. We start our tour of Maranello at the Ferrari Gallery, inaugurated in 1990, where to admire the various trophies and cups won by the Ferrari team over the years and the automobiles which have made motor racing history. Ferrari fans and tourists alike can often be spotted peering through the gates of the factory created by the great Enzo Ferrari. Maranello is also home to Renzo Piano's impressive Wind Tunnel, designed for the aerodynamic development of Formula 1 one-seaters. The Wind Tunnel is part of Ferrari's innovative "Formula Uomo" project - designed to provide highly functional buildings and the best possible working conditions. Not far from here, at Fiorano Modenese, visitors can experience the thrill of driving on the private test track created by Enzo Ferrari in 1971. |

Parma Situated half way between Milan and Bologna, Parma was once the Capital of the Duchy of Parma. There is much to interest the visitor in this city which is rich in cultural traditions and artistic masterpieces, for example Palazzo Vescovile, the Cathedral, Palazzo della Pilotta, the Baptistery, Palazzo Ducale, the Steccata Church, the Paradigma Charterhouse, the Regio Theatre, The Italian Perfumery Museum, the Stuard Art Museum, the Farnese Theatre, and the Palatina Library. There are numerous castles, such as those of Torrechiara, Felino, Montechiarugolo, Bardi, Varano-Melegari, Colorno, San Secondo and Compiano. In the enchanting countryside of the Parma Penines, which surrounds the city, are the Regional Nature Reserve, the Carrega Woods, and the River parks of Taro and Stirane. Parma is known throughout Europe as "the Food Valley" because of its Internationally famous products, such as Spalla cotta calda, Salame Felino, il Culatello, il Prosciutto di Parma and Parmigiano Reggiano. Ravenna Ravenna was an important strategic and commercial centre of the Roman Empire. The city has been awarded special status by UNESCO because of its wealth of ancient mosaics, which have made the city famous throughout the world. The history of Ravenna, from the period of Imperial Rome to that of the late Medieval era has left the town with an incredible number of monuments and in particular, some spectacular baptisteries, basilicas and mausoleums. What's more, the town of Ravenna is associated with Dante, the "father of the Italian language", who chose to be buried here. There are a number of Museums to visit: the National Museum, the Archiepiscopal Museum, Domus dei tappeti di pietra, the Dante center of the convent brothers, the Dante Museum, the Ravenna Art Museum, the National Museum of Underwater Activities, the Planetarium, and the Museum of the Unification. |
